How to make ground beef burritos?

To make our ground beef burritos we are going to specifically use wheat flour tortillas, which unlike corn tortillas, used mostly for tacos, wheat tortillas are larger between 25 to 30 cm, they are easier to roll, resistant and also its soft flavor highlight the filling and the sauce with which we will accompany them.

  • 500 gr of ground beef.
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 3 tablespoons of tomato sauce.
  • 1 pinch of ground oregano.
  • 170 gr of refried beans or a can.
  • 100 gr of grated cheese asadero.
  • 6 tortillas of wheat flour of 30 cm.
  • 2 tomatoes cut into cubes.
  • ½ lettuce, cut into strips.
  • 1 medium onion, diced.
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • For the green sauce
  • 5 tomatillos peeled.
  • 1 whole garlic clove
  • 3 jalapeño peppers, washed and deveined.
  • 1 onion.
  • ½ cup of beef broth.


To prepare the green sauce we boil the tomatillos, garlic and onion for 15 minutes, when cooling we process everything in the blender with the chilies and the beef broth, then we take to cook for 5 to 8 more minutes, we put salt to taste and reserve.

In a hot frying pan add the onion, the garlic and fry for 2 minutes, then add the ground meat together with the oregano, mix and cook for 8 minutes over medium-high heat.

Add the beans, season to taste, stir to avoid sticking, leave to cook for about 5 more minutes, remove from the heat and reserve.

We heat the tortillas in a comal or frying pan over low heat, and to assemble the burritos, we first place the grated cheese in the center, a part of the meat and bean-based filling, followed by a layer of tomatoes, lettuce, green sauce to our taste.

When the burritos are already filled, fold the ends of the tortilla inwards and then roll up, carry out the same procedure for the rest of the tortillas and taste this traditional ground beef burrito.


Make sure to use fresh vegetables and wash them very well when using them.

If you don’t get Asadero cheese, you can substitute any cheese that melts.

You can add chiles con vena if you want to get a spicier flavor in the green sauce.
